INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF GROUP FACILITATION
The Ballyfermot Chapelizod Partnership CLG wishes to tender for an
inhouse staff training programme in group work and facilitation. The
course would be aimed at staff some of whom have prior experience in
training and facilitation and some of whom have extensive experience
in delivering 1:1 supports to the many target groups with which BCP
works.
BCP envisages a 4- 5 day (**Apply on the website** ? **Apply on the
website** hours) programme which could run as a one week intensive or
over two weeks. The group size would be **Apply on the website** max.
The location of the training would be the offices of BCP in 4 Drumfinn
Park, Ballyfermot Dublin **Apply on the website**.
THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE THE CORE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
* Introduction to group work theory and practice
* Understanding of group dynamics
* Facilitation of the learning and development needs of different
population groups
* Programme design in an adult education framework
* Group goal setting
* Stages in group development, good beginnings and good endings
* Understanding and managing group dynamics, establishing, setting
and managing boundaries
* Group work skills and techniques
* Setting and recording outcomes for group and individual
participants
It is expected that the methodology in delivery of this course would
be an example of excellence in group facilitation, all learning would
take place in the group environment and would offer the participants
the opportunity to practice skills and reflect on their own learning.
ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES
* Participants would have an understanding of group work theory and
practice
* Participants would understand what a group facilitator?s role is
* Participants would have enhanced their facilitation skills
* Participants would be able to design and deliver short term
programmes to clients in their core area of expertise
* Participants would demonstrate an understanding of group dynamics
and would be able to create and hold a group in delivering course
objectives
* Participants would have a variety of skills and techniques to use
in the group environment
* Participants would be able to document learning outcomes

course provision as set out above and a knowledge of the values and
ethos that underpins Local Development Companies .
